For several companies we provide (beginners and advanced) boat training on the Zodiac with tiller steering or on the Rib with console steering, which is tailor-made for expedition staff, on board their own vessel.
We have been teaching Deck officers, Seaman and Expedition staff in different parts of the world. (Antarctica, South Georgia, Greenland, Iceland, Mediterranean, Seychelles, Canary Islands, Norway, Faroer Islands and the Netherlands)
In the past few years we have provided the onboard Zodiac and Rib Training on e.g.: Seabourn Expeditions (Venture and Pursuit), The Word Residences at sea, Hurtigruten (Otto Sverdrup, Spitsbergen), Mystic Cruises (The World Voyager), Poseidon (Sea Spirit). Ponant (Le Boreal, L’Austral and Le Lyrial)
Teaching from your own vessel has many advantages. Apart from the teaching we can also observe how zodiac operations are run to get a better understanding. We can pay attention to how drivers operate the zodiacs and how they follow the safety procedures.
Observing the zodiac operations and the condition of the zodiacs can provide valuable insights into how to improve.
We will be taking the following steps:
- Review the safety procedures on board for operating the zodiacs. This can include procedures for launching and retrieving the zodiacs, operating the zodiacs in different conditions, and emergency protocols.
- Assess the condition of the zodiacs and their equipment, such as the engines, steering, and safety equipment. Make note of any areas where maintenance or repairs are needed, and identify any equipment that needs to be replaced.
- Observe the operations of the zodiacs and how they are being used on the expedition ship. This can include the frequency of use, the number of passengers being transported, and any challenges or issues that arise during operations.
- Based on our observations we identify any areas where the operations or condition of the zodiacs can be improved. This can include recommendations for improving safety procedures, updating equipment, or providing additional training for the crew.
- Provide feedback to the ship’s management on our observations and recommendations for improvement.
