For experienced Zodiac drivers to improve their skills.

Do you want to improve your driving skills on a Zodiac? Then our Zodiac Advanced Training might be a good choice. This 1 day fully practical Zodiac training includes a very extensive program. In addition to all “standard” manoeuvres, you also learn many extras. We do landings on the beach and we experience a real MOB situation, we teach you how to navigate with a GPS and how to use a bearing compass. To participate in this Zodiac training you must already have some experience in controlling a Zodiac. After a positive completion of this day you will receive a Ribschool Scheveningen Zodiac Advanced certificate.

We own 2 identical Zodiac Milpro MK5’s at our Rib School in Scheveningen.

To provide a training for expedition staff we have purchased 2 identical Zodiac Milpro MK5’s with Yamaha engine (tiller steering and hydraulic trim).
The steering and boating characteristics with a tiller are slightly different than on a rib with a steering wheel and a throttle.

We operate from our Rib School in Scheveningen or we provide the RYA training from on board the Expedition Vessels. 

Zodiac Advanced Training:

Some of the key practical skills covered in advanced Zodiac driver training may include:

  • Zodiac Check List (content of bow box, grab bag, etc)
  • Radio communication / bridge (Zodiac drivers need to be able to communicate effectively with their team and other boats in the area)
  • Technical maneuvering exercises
  • Towing and being towed
  • Inland and coastal MOB approach
  • How to recover a MOB back on board and how to climb in yourself (in case you go overboard)
  • We experience being in the water with a PFD and also have an automatic lifejacket inflated
  • Beach landings

Some of the key theoretical skills covered in advanced Zodiac driver training may include:

  • Ice navigation and breaking:
    Zodiac drivers need to know how to safely navigate through sea ice, which can be very difficult and unpredictable.
  • Weather forecasting: Antarctic weather can be extremely harsh and unpredictable, so Zodiac drivers need to be able to forecast and prepare for it.
  • Environmental awareness: Zodiac drivers need to be aware of the impact their actions have on the environment and know how to minimise their impact.

Overall, advanced training for Zodiac drivers is designed to ensure that they are able to safely and effectively navigate the harsh conditions  and keeping passengers and crew safe.

When can I book a course?

Our agenda is flexible and we strive to provide everyone with a suitable date at Rib School Scheveningen in the short term.
When registering please indicate in which time period you would like to subscribe and whether you are available during the weekend or during the week.
The minimum number of persons is 3 and the maximum is 4.

 

 

Zodiac Advanced Training:

This advanced course on our Zodiac is specially formulated for expedition staff.

Costs for the RYA Level Zodiac Training

The costs for the Zodiac Advanced course (1 day) are € 475, – p.p.
Includes: Instructor with polar experience, fuel, sailing gear, Life-vest, insurance, lunch and coffee/tea!

We strive to teach a maximum of 4 people, (the minimum is 3)
The course is pretty intensive. This allows you to progress quickly and learn from each other.
If you pass successfully you will receive the Rib School Scheveningen Zodiac Advanded Certificate after this course.

WHAT TO BRING

  • Valid identity card
  • Cold weather: extra thermals, hat, gloves
  • Warm weather: a cap, sunglasses and sunscreen.
  • Rubber boots (don’t have your own? No worries, we have all sizes at our office)

We provide lunch, coffee and tea.
During the training everyone will be provided with all the necessary gear from Helly Hansen, including a dry-suit or wet-suit, rubber boots and a life-vest.
