RYA POWERBOAT LEVEL 2 ON ZODIAC (INTERNATIONAL POWERBOAT CERTIFICATE):

The RYA Powerboat Level 2 course is typically taught on standard powerboats. As we specialise in expedition training, we also offer the course on a Zodiac Milpro MK5, providing valuable experience handling this type of boat in different conditions. After successful completion of the course, you will receive the RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate.
Rib School Scheveningen is located at the beach of The Hague, 40 kilometers south of Amsterdam Schiphol Airport with a direct public transport connection.

We own 2 identical Zodiac Milpro MK5’s at our home base in Scheveningen.

To provide a training for expedition staff under similar circumstances we have purchased 2 identical Zodiac Milpro MK5’s with Yamaha engine (tiller steering and hydraulic trim). The steering and boating characteristics with a tiller are slightly different than on a rib with a steering wheel and a throttle. We have put together a training where we teach you to be able to work as a RYA certified Zodiac driver on an expedition ship sailing in challenging conditions. We know from personal experience what you can expect. Training typically includes instruction on safety procedures, navigation, and basic boat handling.

We operate from our Rib School in Scheveningen or we provide onboard training from Expedition vessels.

Since 2018 Rib School Scheveningen has started providing RYA Powerboat courses on expedition vessels sailing to Antarctica, the Arctic and other challenging regions.
The increasing demand to certify staff on expedition vessels with the RYA Powerboat Level 2 was the immediate reason for this.

RYA Powerboat Level 2 on Zodiac (International Powerboat Certificate):

The Internationally recognized RYA Powerboat Level 2 course is especially formulated for expedition staff. The RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate is very often a required document on many ships to be able to control the Zodiac. We have put together a training in which you learn to drive the Zodiac with tiller steering. We also take extra time during the training for you to be able to ask all your questions about expedition cruising to our staff with Polar experience. A very complete 2-day boating course with a maximum of 3 participants.

Upon successful completion of these 2 days you will receive the Internationally recognised RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate and you will know the basics of safely handling the Zodiac.

When can I book a course?

Our agenda is flexible and we strive to provide everyone with a suitable date at Rib School Scheveningen in the short term. In general we have a course every week.
When registering please indicate in which time period you would like to subscribe and whether you are available during the weekend or during the week.

RYA Powerboat Level 2 on the Zodiac:

The Internationally recognised RYA Powerboat Level 2 course on our Zodiac is specially formulated for expedition staff. The RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate is a required document on many ships to be able to control the Zodiac. We have put together a training in which you learn to sail the Zodiac with tiller steering. A very complete 2-day boating course with a maximum of 3 participants. Upon successful completion of these 2 days you will receive the Internationally recognised RYA Level 2 certificate. Also useful if you want to rent a fast motorboat on vacation.

Checklist boat equipment, engine & preparation, basic driving

Man overboard maneuvers (MOB)
Mooring and Casting-Off on another ship / jetty. Riding with the tide.

End first course day with follow-up discussion.

Program day 2

Theory about the origin of tides and explanation of the sea charts.

Repetition of basic operations and understanding of waterway marking

Full afternoon practice exercises,
MOB, use of bearing compass and lines and knots.

End of course with debriefing and eventual presentation Powerboat Certificate.

Costs for the RYA Level Zodiac Training

The costs for the RYA Level 2 powerboat course (2 days) are € 875, – p.p.
Includes: RYA certified instructor, VAT, fuel, sailing gear, Life-vest, RYA manual, insurance, lunch and coffee/tea!

During the training everyone will be provided with all the necessary gear from Helly Hansen and rubber boots.

We strive to teach a maximum of 2 – 3 people at the same time in order to give optimal attention. You are alternately skipper and co-skipper.
The course is pretty intensive. This allows you to progress quickly and learn from each other. If you pass successfully you will receive the RYA Powerboat Level 2 Certificate after this course.
